Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) is the body responsible for organizing the university admission examination and a number of other large-scale examinations in Turkey. ÖSYM also manages the only and largest state-run computer-based testing center in the world (5,600 people at the same time). The institution was first established in 1974 by the Interuniversity Council under the name “Interuniversity Student Selection and Placement Center (ÜSYM)”. In 1981, it was affiliated to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the name was changed to “Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM)”. In 2011, its name was changed to the Presidency of the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center.
On 29 September 2021, a meeting was held between the heads of SEC and ÖSYM through the mediation of the Yunus Emre Institute, an international partner of the SEC. This meeting laid the foundation for collaboration between ÖSYM and SEC. During the meeting, the sides discussed the exchange of experience between the institutions, new methods and approaches applied in the field of measurement and assessment, mutual visits, scientific conferences of assessment and measurement institutions of Turkic states, etc. The work is on progress on the opportunities for mutual collaboration discussed in this regard.
